Holiday Hudson Reporter advertising deadlines

Because of the Thanksgiving Day holiday, some of the Hudson Reporter newspapers will have special advertising deadlines.
For The Secaucus Reporter, The North Bergen Reporter, The Union City Reporter, The West New York Reporter, and The Weehawken Reporter, the deadline for classified and display advertising is Tuesday, Nov. 23, at noon.

4-One Open Run basketball tournament to benefit Malaria No More

On Sunday, Nov. 21, the TIGS Group (Together In Greatness) of Memorial High School in West New York is hosting their second annual 4-One Open Run at the West New York Middle School, followed by the main event on Monday, Nov. 22 at MHS to benefit Malaria No More, a nonprofit organization that is committed to ending malaria deaths in Africa by 2015.
The 4-One Open Run is a 5-on-5-team basketball tournament that any MHS student can participate in. The winning team returns Monday night for the main event to play with 4-One members. Monday night’s main event is open to the public for a $3 admission. All proceeds will be donated to Malaria No More. PAC announces 2010 ‘Art for the Park’ fundraiser

Park PAC is proud to announce its second annual “Art for the Park” fundraiser with a community day event and silent art auction. The events will take place at the Park PAC, 560 32nd St. in Union City.
The community day event will take place Dec. 4 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the main lobby. There will be vendor tables, music, food, beverages, arts and crafts, raffles, and performances by Bboy Chief 69, belly dancer Caridad Rivera, and many others. There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door to benefit the Children’s Art Program.
The silent art auction will take place Dec. 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will feature works of internationally renowned artists such as John “Crash” Matos, jewelry designer Javiera Magaly, photographer Alexander “Zeus” Huezo, and many other upcoming artists. Music will be provided by DJ Ziggy Roman. All proceeds from art sales and donations support the 2010 Children’s Art Program.

Foundation announces scholarship for college-level Hispanic students

The Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of NJ, Inc. (HBCSF) announces that applications are now being accepted for the annual scholarship and book stipend awards for current college and college-bound Hispanic students for the 2011-2012 school term.
Open to all N.J. residents of Hispanic heritage, the application can be accessed through www.hbcsf.org. Applications and all required information must be postmarked by Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. Scholarships of up to $4,000 each will be disbursed directly to the college or university of the student’s choice during the 2011-2012 school term. HBCSF also awards $1,000 book stipends.
Interviews and the final award selection will be completed by the end of March and the scholarships will be presented at the Foundation’s 20th Annual Scholarship Gala on Thursday, May 12, 2011.

PMC’s Stroke Support Group helps local residents

Palisades Medical Center’s Rehabilitation Medicine Department conducts a weekly Post-Rehabilitation Stroke Support Group to help improve the lives of dozens of local residents. The support group is designed to address the difficulties experienced by stroke or neurological/brain injury patients who have completed a course of treatment. Support group participants discuss their experiences and share tips on solving challenges.

‘Green Friday’ Nature Walk and Talk to be held Nov. 26

On Friday, Nov. 26, New Jersey Meadowlands Commission and Bergen County Audubon Society will hold a “Green Friday” Nature Walk and Talk, with the walk from 10 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. and the talk from noon to 1 p.m.
In this free program at DeKorte Park, participants will explore the Marsh Discovery Trail, looking for waterfowl and raptors, and explore other parts of the park as time allows. A bring-your-own brown bag lunch in the Meadowlands Environment Center’s Visitors Center follows. Participants can attend either or both events. Participants will meet outside the Environment Center at 9:45 a.m.

The Harborage at PMC receives ‘zero deficiencies’ rating

F or the third consecutive year, an inspection by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services (NJDHSS) has found that The Harborage at Palisades Medical Center has “zero deficiencies” after a thorough, six-day evaluation focused on dozens of quality of care and quality of life issues.
Only 3 percent of facilities in the entire state receive the “zero deficiencies” score, and it is extremely rare for a facility to receive this distinction three consecutive years, according to the NJDHSS.
According to Department’s inspection, residents “enjoy living at The Harborage” and they have a “very high regard for staff.” The inspection also found that Harborage staff “works cohesively towards clear goals.”

NJMC Flyway Gallery hosts 2010 Employee Art Exhibit in November

The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission’s 2010 Employee Art Exhibit is on display at the Meadowlands Environment Center’s Flyway Gallery now until Dec. 2.
The environmentally themed show includes nature and landscape photography by commission staffers Jim Wright and Lou Coviello, and digital inkjet prints by Lisa Cameron.
“The NJMC Employee Art Exhibit presents a wonderful opportunity for the commission to share the exceptional artistic talent of its staff with their colleagues and the public,” said Robert Ceberio, executive director of the NJMC.
