Three adults charged in alleged burglary attempt – one juvenile still sought
Three adults and one juvenile were charged with burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary after police on patrol caught them allegedly breaking into a van in the parking lot behind a laundromat at 541 Avenue C on Nov. 1.
A police spokesperson said officers on patrol recognized the four suspects from previous encounters and decided to keep an eye on them when they appeared to be acting suspiciously near the laundromat. The police said the four went into the parking lot, where they allegedly damaged the van door in their attempt to break in. When police approached, the four figures fled. The three adults were shortly apprehended after the officers put out a description to other patrol cars. The fourth suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, is currently being sought.
Charged were Jeury Santos, 20, of 15th Street, Bayonne, Guido Maurico, 19, of Lord Avenue, Bayonne, and Michael A. Malu, 18, of Fawler Avenue, in Jersey City.
Santos faced the additional charge of possession of marijuana when police found an allegedly pot-laced cigarette on him during a search subsequent to his arrest. All three men were sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Beauty aids theft alleged
Melanie Noolas, 21, of Bayonne, was charged with shoplifting from Stop & Shop on Nov. 5 after the store manager saw her allegedly fill a shopping cart full of beauty aides and attempt to leave the store without paying. The items, which included shampoo, body wash, and various lotions, were valued at $463.58.
Four cars had tires slashed on mischief night
A police spokesperson said the department received four reports of slashed tires in the West First Street area during the overnight period from Oct. 30 to the 31.
A blue four-door Dodge Colt had all four tires slashed near 55 W. First St. A red, two-door Jeep had a front passenger-side tire slashed near 141 W. First St. A four-door white Camry had a rear passenger-side tire slashed near 173 W. First St. A silver Ford Explore had a rear passenger side tire slashed on nearby Island View Court.
Shoplifting charge leads to arrest for cocaine possession
Efrian Torres, 24, reported as homeless, was charged with shoplifting and possession of cocaine after he allegedly attempted to take a $24.99 bottle of Bacardi Rum from the ShopRite liquor department on Oct. 30. Store security detained Torres after they saw him on the security camera allegedly putting the bottle into his pants, covering it with his shirt, and attempting to leave the store without paying. A police spokesperson said a search after the arrest discovered him in possession of a glassine bag containing a white powder suspected to be cocaine. Torres was sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
Tooth aids lead to arrest for shoplifting
Erwin Morris, 43, of Grand Street, Jersey City, was charged with shoplifting when he allegedly attempted to take $37.89 of oral care products from Rite Aid at 471 Broadway on Nov. 2. A police spokesperson said a loss prevention manager at the store saw Morris allegedly place oral gel, tooth pain reliever, soft toothpicks, and other items under his jacket and attempt to leave the store without paying. Morris was sent the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.
