Secaucus launches “Adopt the Clock” campaign

SECAUCUS – The Town of Secaucus is currently seeking donations for its “Adopt the Clock…Making Tomorrow’s History Today” campaign to raise money for a 16-foot clock the municipality plans to install in the Plaza next month.
Mayor Michael Gonnelli first announced plans to install a large “community clock” in the center of town in August as part of his administration’s effort to beautify the Plaza area and give it a more uniform look and feel.
The town is now asking interested residents to donate to the community clock campaign and is offering three giving levels at $200, $300, and $450. The money raised will be used to purchase the clock and cover the cost of maintenance and upkeep.
To sweeten the deal, the town is offering incentives to attract donations.
Residents who give $200 will receive a pewter replica of the actual clock, while those who donate $300 can have either their names or a brief message inscribed on a plaque that will be affixed to the base of the clock.
Residents who give at the highest level of $450 will receive both the replica and an inscription.
A four-face clock design has already been selected and each side of the timepiece will be sponsored by local corporations that will each donate $5,000 to have their names affixed to their face.
Although the town has not publically announced the names of any corporate sponsors so far, two town officials said they are “pretty optimistic” that such funding will be forthcoming soon. In fact, the clock, which will be purchased from the Cincinnati-based Verdin Co., has already been slated to make its debut outside Marra Drugs in late December.
