HOBOKEN – There’s a new councilman in town.
Fourth Ward Councilman Tim Occhipinti, with his left hand on the Bible, was officially sworn in with Assemblyman Ruben Ramos (D – Hoboken) and City Clerk James Farina by his side on Monday evening at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Earlier in the day, the election was certified by the Hudson County Board of Elections, which then allowed the City Clerk’s office to officially swear in Occhipinti.
Thirty supporters of Occhipinti, including current council members and campaign officials, joined the new councilman in the Council Chambers in City Hall for the brief ceremony.
Occhipinti and his supporters said they’ll be there again on Monday evening for the City Council meeting where a ceremonial swearing in will also take place.
Occhipinti defeated incumbent Michael Lenz on Nov. 2 in the 4th Ward special election, and will have to defend the seat in May when all of the ward seats will be up for grabs. – Ray Smith
