Blood donation drive for JC boy
Ricky Roman Jr. is a 7-year-old with a serious medical condition. Diagnosed with a life-threatening disease, he needs blood donors to step up and lend a hand.
On Saturday, Nov. 6, from noon to 6 p.m., those who wish to help can donate blood at the Ringside Lounge-Upstairs, at 475 Tonnelle Ave. A bone marrow test and non-invasive oral cheek swab will be included. Donors must bring a signed I.D. and know their Social Security number. Please drink fluids and eat before donating.

Sires granted another term in 13th Congressional District

On Nov. 2, Albio Sires, the incumbent congressman for the 13th District, won another term in office.
Within just a couple of hours of the polls closing, Sires was reported as the winner in Hudson, Essex, Middlesex, and Union counties, achieving an average of over 75 percent of the vote between the four counties.
Sires, who has been in office since 2006, faced three challengers to maintain his seat in Congress this year, including Republican challenger Henrietta Dwyer, who earned an average of 21 percent of the vote. Third party challengers Anthony Zanowic and Maximo Gomez Nacer received 2 percent or less in each county.
The 13th Congressional District covers four counties, including a majority of Hudson County municipalities like Guttenberg, Hoboken, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York, as well as parts of Bayonne, Jersey City, and North Bergen.

Liberty State Park talk and walk

On Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. at Liberty State Park’s Nature Interpretive Center on Freedom Way, the Friends of Liberty State Park are presenting a free program about the Interior Natural Area followed by a 90- minute guided walk starting at 2:15 p.m. This urban wonderland, with its “restoration” with nature trails about to begin, has dramatically evolved from the train freight yard era. Sinatra on the big screen at Landmark Loew’s

The movies of Hoboken-born crooner Frank Sinatra are showing at the Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre, 54 Journal Square, on Nov. 19 and Nov. 20.
The theatre where the legendary singer got his start during an amateur night in the 1930s will show three of his classic movies: “The Man With the Golden Arm” also starring Kim Novak, Eleanor Parker, and Darren McGavin, directed by Otto Preminger (1955, 119 mins. B&W) on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m.; “On the Town,” also starring Gene Kelly, Betty Garrett, Anne Miller, Vera-Ellen, and Jules Munshin, directed by Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly (1949, 98 mins. color) on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.; and “From Here to Eternity,” also starring Burt Lancaster, Montgomery Clift, Deborah Kerr, Donna Reed, and Ernest Borgnine, directed by Fred Zinnemann.
