HOBOKEN – The votes have begun to come in at the 4th Ward polling locations throughout the southwestern corner of Hoboken. The marquee matchup of the day has Councilman Michael Lenz facing off against challenger Tim Occhipinti.
Street workers stood on corners throughout the 4th Ward with shirts and signs in support of either Lenz or Occhipinti. Green-shirted supporters of Lenz and white-shirted supporters of Occhipinti stood on corners adjacent to each other a few blocks away from the polling places.
At 3:15 p.m., the 4-1 district had 311 voters come in and vote. As of 3 p.m., the 4-2 district, where Lenz supporter Mayor Dawn Zimmer lives, had 319 voters. In the 4-3 district, where both candidates live, 193 votes had been cast. At approximately 3:30, the 4-4 district had 220 votes.
Election workers at the polls said it has been relatively busy, but the big rush is expected to begin around 5 p.m. when voters return home from work.
