VFW seeking local military serving overseas for holiday packages

The Oulton-Kraft Post 1923 V.F.W., in conjunction with the Weehawken Senior Citizens Club, is once again getting ready to send Christmas packages to the military overseas. Names and addresses of any local military currently serving overseas who could receive the packages are currently being sought. The group asks all residents to help in the effort to try making this holiday season a little less lonesome for the men and women who are separated from their families at this time. Free health screenings to be provided on Monday

The North Hudson Community Action Program will be visiting Weehawken on Nov. 1 for free cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose screenings. Anyone interested can visit the community room at 2-4 Potter Place from 9:30 a.m. to noon or the community room at 525 Gregory Ave. from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. For more information, call the Senior Center at (201) 319-6060.

‘Fairytale Trials’ will decide fate of Snow White and the Evil Queen

On Nov. 5 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., the Weehawken Public Library will host a special “Fairytale Trial” for children ages 8 to 14. During the event, participants will discover “what really happened between Snow White and the Evil Queen,” as they sit on a “jury” while the library staff performs a mock trial between these two fairytale adversaries. Weehawken Woman’s Club to hold Sock Hop

The Weehawken Woman’s Club invites everyone to their annual fall fundraiser. This year’s event will be held on Nov. 7 at the Weehawken Elk’s Club, 50th Street and Boulevard East. This year’s theme is “Sock Hop.” All are invited to step back in time for a fun romp of happy memories and enjoy good food, fun music, and a tricky tray of quality gifts. Ticket donation is $30.00 per person with all proceeds benefitting local charities. The 30th Annual Artists Studio Tour on Nov. 6 and 7

On Saturday, Nov. 6 and Sunday, Nov. 7, from noon until 6 p.m., Mayor Dawn Zimmer, The City of Hoboken, The Hudson Reporter, and the Hudson County Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs will present The Hoboken 30th Annual Artists Studio Tour, a free self-guided walking tour of artists’ studios, galleries, and community exhibition spaces. Over 150 artists’ works will be showcased in 41 venues. The tour takes place all throughout Hoboken, at spots that include The Monroe Center, the Friary, 619 Jefferson St., and the Neumann Leather building at 300 Observer Hwy. Fundraising banquet to be held for children’s event

The National Association of Cuban-American Women will be holding a dinner and dance banquet on Nov. 7 at Mediterranean Manor Restaurant, 255-260 Jefferson St. in Newark. As in previous years, the event is being held for the purpose of raising funds for the “Toys Giving Program,” which will help distribute toys to children on Jan. 8 at Park Theatre in Union City in celebration of Three Kings Day.
