Sensible voices lead to civility in local politics

Dear Editor:
I am writing to comment on two letters from this past Sunday’s (Oct.24) edition:
I totally agree with Luz Marrero imploring everyone to “bring a little civility to our local politics.” I say we need a lot of civility and common sense in our local politics. Everyone should make an extra effort about getting more involved. I know a lot of people care about this great city, so we should all treat each other with respect and be more good listeners. That way FREE SPEECH is truly exercised and enjoyed.
And just like John Glasel wrote in his letter, “Voters need to be able to tell phonies from straight-shooters.”
How? By, first, being involved, attending or watching on TV the city council meetings, reading our local paper to know the facts about issues that the city has to deal with. I always make an effort to vote at every election, no matter how poor the choices are, since I believe, as a U.S. citizen, that is the least I can do. We need to think for ourselves, too, and be more vocal about our values.
I am so glad for people like Luz and John. We NEED to hear more sensible voices like them. Thank you!
