Dear Editor:
I’m supporting Michael Lenz for 4th Ward councilman, and I don’t even like him!
I have been a property owner in the 4th Ward since 1989, and have known Michael almost that long. If this were a race about personality, I would not be able to support him; however, it is about our city, our ward, and our future.
Michael brings education as an accountant to the table, along with certifications in municipal finance. He has business experience in both the private and public sectors. He has been doing a good job on the council and should be permitted to continue.
I applaud him for not caving in to the demands of others that the small surplus be returned to taxpayers. Having a surplus in the budget is like having a savings account to have something in reserve for an unexpected problem, like the recent street collapse, which could have been a city street rather than a county road.
Michael is not in the pockets of special interests and even angers his own campaign workers from time to time. But, as I said, this election is about what he can do for the city and the 4th Ward – we don’t have to like him to let him get the job done.
