Hoboken’s haunting homes

Uptown Garden Street residents spookify the neighborhood

As the end of October draws near, it’s clear that Hoboken has come under the spell of fall and Halloween excitement. Pumpkin spice lattes have returned as a staple of residents’ caffeine diets, farms for apple picking and hayrides are now the weekend getaway destination, and a large costume superstore has set up shop downtown.
Residents of Garden Street have set the stage early for Halloween festivities, decorating their homes between 11th and 13th streets with all kinds of ghoulish decorations. Black cats are lurking behind fences, cackling witches are brewing up trouble behind trees, and nocturnal bats are taking up residence above doorways.
So take a walk on these streets, get caught in the web of Halloween excitement. But watch out for the giant cobweb on the corner of 11th and Garden. That one looks like it takes hostages, and we’d hate for you to miss the most wicked night of the year.
