To the Editor:
The Bayonne Quilt Club recently held its second Quilt Show and Food Drive at the Bayonne Library. We had 98 quilts on display, all of which will be donated to hospitalized children and clients of the Bayonne Office on Aging. The food (and money donations) were given to the Our Lady of Assumption Food Pantry.
We truly thank the library and its staff who made this show possible. It is a wonderful treat for us to share our quilts with the community, especially those who have donated to us.
A special thanks to A.J. Wright, DOTS, Joyce Leslie, and Mandee for donating hangers used for hanging the quilts. Thank you to Robert Kaufman Fabrics and Toray Industries America for donating fabric.
Thank you to the City of Bayonne for giving us a space to meet and quilt and to the Department of Recreation who help us throughout the year.
Thank you to our husbands and children who did the ‘heavy lifting’ for us. They assembled the display racks, hung the quilts, and helped disassemble everything at the end of the show. We could not have done it without their strong backs and long arms.
Thank you to the “Bayonne Community News” and “The Jersey Journal” for publicizing the show and for the wonderful follow up article.
Lastly, a huge thank you to all the donors of fabric, machines, and sewing supplies. We truly could not exist without your generosity.
The response to the show was wonderful and we hope to do it again in 2011.
