HOBOKEN – The two Hoboken farmers’ markets, which bring fresh fruit and vegetables to the city every week on Tuesday and Thursday from spring through the fall, may continue beyond the end of this month.
John Branciforte, a volunteer manager for the markets, said the Tuesday market, on Washington Street near Newark Street, isn’t scheduled to close until Oct. 26. The Thursday market, uptown on Hudson Street and 13th Street, isn’t scheduled to close until Oct. 28. Both markets will be open from 3 to 7:30 p.m.
Branciforte said he’ll meet with the participating farmers at each market next week to discuss whether to extend the markets beyond the end of October. A key question will be whether enough volunteers can be mustered to help out with the market operations.
A report in the Hoboken Reporter on Oct. 17, detailing the contributions the farmers make to the Hoboken Shelter, erroneously reported that the markets were closing.
