Cyberbullying poll results are in

In a Hudson Reporter poll featured last week in connection with the story “Sex, spies, and videotape,” we asked readers if they believed specific laws should be created to address online harassment and cyberbullying. Recreation department to hold registration for fall/winter program

Weehawken Recreation Department will hold registration for the upcoming fall and winter program on Oct. 18, Oct. 19, and Oct. 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Weehawken Town Hall, 400 Park Ave.
Registration for workshops and programs will be open to all residents and are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for the programs will continue after these dates; however, because space is limited, some programs may not be available at a later date.
Registration by e-mail will not be taken prior to Oct. 21.
Programs with fees must be paid at the time of registration by cash or check only. Checks should be made payable to “Township of Weehawken.” Parents need to register their own children and must bring proof of residency to register.

Weekenders will head to Pa. to shop, gamble

The Weehawken Weekenders are planning their Annual Shopping/Gambling Trip to Tannersville, Pa. to visit Mount Airy Casino and The Crossings Outlet on Nov. 6.
The day includes a dinner stop at The Tannersville Inn before returning, but the cost of dinner is not included. The bus will depart the Pathmark lot at 9 a.m., and the estimated return time is 8 p.m.
Ticket price of $30.00 per person includes deluxe coach transportation and drivers gratuity. All ages are welcome, but only adults over 21 will be admitted to the casino. For more information or to sign up, please call the Weekenders Office at (201) 319-6060.

Library to celebrate Italian American Heritage Month

In honor of Italian American Heritage Month, the Weehawken Public Library will host author Paola Corso on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. for a discussion of her new book “Catina’s Haircut: A Novel in Stories.”
The book spans four generations of a peasant family in the brutal poverty of post-Unification southern Italy and in an immigrant’s United States.
Paola Corso, a former Weehawken resident, grew up in the Pittsburgh area where her southern Italian immigrant family found work in the steel mills. She is a Sherwood Anderson Fiction Award winner, New York Foundation for the Arts Fellow, and John Gardner Fiction Book Award Finalist. She lives in Brooklyn, New York and is a writer-in-residence in Western Connecticut State University’s MFA Program in Creative and Professional Writing.

Food-raising event to benefit Food Bank

On Oct. 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., the Essex County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and the honorary chairman, County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. will host a food-raising event at the Turtle Back Zoo Carousel, Northfield Avenue, in West Orange to benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
Adult contribution is $10. Musical entertainment will be provided by Brandon Sheer, along with Manny Scarpinato and Joey Jarroush. Unlimited carousel rides and complimentary child identification cards will be provided by the New York Life Insurance Company.
Canned foods will be accepted. Please, no glass containers. The Community Food Bank of New Jersey serves Old Bergen Church in Jersey City, Palisade Emergency Residence Corp. in Union City, Holy Redeemer Church in West New York, and Gospel Tabernacle Church in North Bergen.

PMC to host breast cancer seminar

Palisades Medical Center is scheduled to host a breast cancer seminar on Oct. 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Registration will begin at 6 p.m., with the event running until 8 p.m. Admission, parking, and refreshments are free, as well as transportation from 60th Street and Bergenline Avenue.
