Dear Editor:
I have been a loyal resident of Jersey City for about 20 years. I have never abandoned this city neither in good nor in bad times. I never complained and have always loved this city with all my heart.
I have a modest one-bedroom condo in the Brunswick Towers condominium complex. My property taxes were over $5,000.00 last year already, and I thought that this was already a more than generous contribution to the city government. This year, I had to pay $300 extra every quarter, and there is one more quarter to go.
Stop raising my taxes!
I think I can speak for all people like me. You are strangling me with these taxes. I can’t afford my payments, even without the mortgage, any more. And I am a fortunate one – I still have a job. Do you think this is my responsibility to pay for every welfare recipient and every union worker in Jersey City? I can’t afford it anymore!
When I don’t have money, I cut spending. Please do the same, instead of just raising our taxes.
Are you trying to get rid of all good people like me and ruin this city? Do you think the welfare recipients will cover all your expenses? Are you in a hurry to tax everybody as much as possible before Christie’s tax cap will take place next year?
I wish this law started already.
