Cyberbullying poll results are in

In a Hudson Reporter poll featured last week in connection with the story “Sex, spies, and videotape,” we asked readers if they believed specific laws should be created to address online harassment and cyberbullying. Boot drive for local woman

On Saturday, Oct. 16, the Secaucus Volunteer Fire Department will hold a “boot drive” fundraiser for a local resident who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and needs financial assistance with her medical care.
The drive will begin at 10 a.m. outside of Sam’s Club and Walmart at 300 Park Place.
The North Jersey Chapter of the Guardians of the Ribbon will assist in the fundraiser, and will bring to the drive its pink fire engine for truck signing. The pink truck can be signed by any woman who is a cancer survivor or can be signed by others in memory of a woman who was lost to cancer.
Guardians of the Ribbon is a cancer awareness organization based in Wayne that encourages fire, police, emergency medical services, and town officials to support and raise money for women in their communities who are battling cancer.

Come celebrate Diwali in Buchmuller Park

The Indian Caucus of Secaucus invites everyone in the community to come out to celebrate Diwali – known as the Festival of Lights – in Buchmuller Park on Saturday, Oct. 23. The festivities will include traditional Indian music and dance, in addition to free activities for children, a mini bazaar, and various competitions. There will also be lots of great food.
Performers are still being added to the day’s lineup of entertainment. Artists who are interested in performing should contact the Caucus at indiancaucus@gmail.com.
The fun will begin at noon and go until… The Caucus looks forward to seeing everyone there.

Free concert at library

Phyllis Lynd will perform in concert at the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center on Sunday, Oct. 17. The concert begins at 2 p.m.
For this performance, Lynd will present a concert of Broadway classics.
A versatile entertainer who also plays acoustic guitar, Lynd often sprinkles her performances with inspirational tunes sung in 10 different languages, including Italian, French, Russian, German, Yiddish, Hebrew, Spanish, Creole, and Zulu. Lynd has a master’s degree in voice from Manhattan School of Music and is the winner of five ASCAP Awards.

Fundraiser to benefit food bank

The Essex County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section and the honorary chairman, County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo Jr. are hosting a Food-Raising event at the Turtle Back Zoo Carousel, Northfield Avenue, West Orange, to benefit the Community Food Bank of New Jersey. Adult contribution is $10. Musical entertainment will be provided by Brandon Sheer along with Manny Scarpinato and Joey Jarroush. Unlimited carousel rides and complimentary child identification cards will be provided by the New York Life Insurance Company. Canned foods will be accepted. Please, no glass containers. Date: Saturday, Oct. 23, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Community FoodBank of NJ serves the following food pantries/programs in Hudson County: Old Bergen Church in Jersey City, Palisade Emergency Residence Corp. in Union City, Holy Redeemer Church in West New York, and Gospel Tabernacle Church in North Bergen.
