HUDSON COUNTY – The Board of Freeholders was informed this week that the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny is infested with bedbugs, and that jail officials are trying to find a way to deal with the issue.
Bedbugs have become a problem in hotels and residences throughout the nation, but in a jail, county officials said, with limited available room, the problem is significantly worse.
The freeholders are reviewing the matter in order to find an adequate way to deal with the problem.
The Jersey City school system is also hearing from irate parents complaining that school authorities were slow in telling them that bedbugs have infested three city schools, and the City Council has introduced an ordinance increasing the responsibility of landlords to deal with the pests.
