Nasty weather approaches; city issues storm alert

HOBOKEN – Beginning late on Thursday, Hoboken can expect some stormy weather, according to a report on Accuweather.
A storm alert has been issued for Thursday afternoon into Friday afternoon. Accuweather has reported that the city can expect very strong winds and over an inch of rain. Tonight, gusts of over 40 mph are predicted.
The city has urged residents in flood-prone areas to move their vehicles to higher ground. A flood zone map is available at http://www.hobokennj.org/departments/environmental-services/storm-flood-zones/.
Residents are reminded that overnight parking from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. is available every day in Municipal Garages B, D, and Midtown for $5. If a flood warning is issued, the City of Hoboken will provide free parking in Municipal Garage B (located on 2nd Street between Hudson and River streets) and waive the $5 fee for residents in flood prone areas with a valid residency parking permit. This policy does not apply to Garages D and Midtown – only for those parked in Garage B, according to a city release.
The city will shut off a water main near the collapsed Sinatra Drive North as a precaution in anticipation of the storm.
