HOBOKEN – A portion of the road and walkway on Sinatra Drive between 13th and 14th streets collapsed at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon. No one was injured. Sinatra Drive between 12th Street and 14th Street will remain closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until repairs are completed.
The nearest building, a condo at the intersection of Constitution Court and Sinatra Drive, was confirmed as structurally sound, according to Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
The city has rerouted NY Waterway ferries to southern Hoboken until city engineers can evaluate the situation, according to City Spokesperson Juan Melli. Sinatra Drive is a road maintained by Hudson County.
A fence will be placed around the area. Zimmer said it could be “awhile” until traffic resumes in the affected area, but it was initially hoped that vehicles will soon be able to travel as far north as Constitution Court on Sinatra Drive. – Ray Smith
