UNION CITY — Two Union City Boxing Club fighters won state championships in their respective weight classes in the NJ Diamond Gloves State Tournament on Oct. 2.
Jose Aviles of Jersey City, who has been boxing at the Union City Boxing Club for nine months, beat out Wilson DeLaCruz, of Passaic, in the third round.
Felix Tejada, who has made it to the final bouts four times in the past, won the state championships in his weight class this year against Gamalier Maysonet of Newark.
Both Aviles and Tejada, along with other boxers from the Union City Boxing Club were recently featured in an article in The Reporter about Union City Boxing Club.
On Oct. 16, fellow Union City Boxing Club professionals Jason “El Monstrou” Escalera and Juan “The Breast” Rodriguez will return to the ring for a special show at Washington School, 3901 New York Ave. in Union City.
