To the Editor:
A few weeks ago, I read in the BCN about a problem with litter and sewer grates on Avenue E. The writer said that they were so embarrassed by the conditions she saw that it made her want to leave town. I made it a point to drive down Avenue E the very next day and I could not identify any of the conditions she referenced. Don’t get me wrong, things were not perfect. But I did not see anything that would cause me to want to leave town. Yes, there was some litter and, yes, there were a few high weeds. But I also saw a public works crew out there cleaning up. I saw men on Broadway, too.
I don’t know who the writer is or what she saw, but I’m tired of people always talking trash about Bayonne. After all, it’s not the “city” that litters, it’s the people who live here. People should be responsible enough to clean up in front of there homes. Sure, we could hire more workers and have them spend their time cleaning up after us. But who would pay for it? I think we should stop being so negative and look at the positive side of things.
Mayor Smith and Councilman Greaves are doing a great job turning things around. They are working to clean up the city entrance and are trying to buy the abandoned gas stations to expand the park uptown. Let’s give them our support instead of trying to tear things down!
