HOBOKEN — Students K-8 will start classes at the Hoboken Charter School at 713 Washington St. on Tuesday instead of the previously announced opening today, according to local online reports.
School administrators attributed the delay to fire and electrical inspections. But the delay doesn’t mean a shorter school year, they said. Students will still be required to complete the180-day school year required by state law.
Start of the school year has already been delayed a couple of weeks because of ongoing work at the Academy of the Sacred Heart building. Some of the work over the summer involved asbestos remediation.
Younger students at the school had to be relocated because students from Connors School were relocated while repairs are made there. About 70 older charter students remaining at Demarest started school earlier this month.
