BAYONNE – Gov. Christopher Christie is expected to appear in Bayonne at the foot of the Bayonne Bridge on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 2 p.m. to talk about the $1 billion committment the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has made for raising the bridge.
Last week, the Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners officially agreed to set aside up to $1 billion to raise the height of the Bayonne Bridge to allow it to accommodate new larger ships that will not otherwise be able to access Port Newark and Elizabeth. The Bayonne Bridge has a current clearance of between 151 to 156 feet, too low to accommodate ships that are expected to arrive in the area in 2015.
