UC to host opening night of NJ Diamond Gloves Tournament

UNION CITY — On Friday, Sept. 17, the Union City Police Supervising Officers Association in conjunction with the Union City Boxing Club will sponsor the opening night of the NJ Diamond Gloves Boxing Tournament. Boxers from throughout the state will compete in the six week tournament, which is the longest running tournament in New Jersey dating back to 1933.
This year marks the second time Union City Boxing Club and the Union City Police Supervising Officers Association host the opening night.
The show will be held at Mother Seton Parochial School at 1501 New York Ave. in Union City. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the first bout will start at 7 p.m. There are over 20 bouts scheduled for the evening including 11 boxers from the Union City Boxing Club which entered 14 boxers in the tournament.
“The young athletes that compete in this tournament fight their hearts out every year,” said Union City Boxing Club Head Coach Joe Botti. “It is a great night out.”
Last year, Union City Boxing Club won first place in the tournament.
