JERSEY CITY — Mayor Jerramiah Healy and law enforcement officials are scheduled to announce Tuesday afternoon additional charges against a local senior care aide after a newly-discovered video suggests a history of alleged abuse against a person in her care.
The aide, Carmen Pereira, was arrested on Friday after she was caught on videotape allegedly slapping a 91-year-old woman she was caring for within the senior’s home.
Pereira has already been charged with aggravated assault with extreme indifference, endangering the welfare of an incompetent person and neglect of an elderly/disabled person, according to police.
The new charges and video of the crime will be released during a 2 p.m. news conference at the Jersey City Police Dept. Communications Center, 75 Bishop St. – RK
