Interim Hoboken Corporation Counsel appointed

HOBOKEN — The city announced on Tuesday that attorney Mark Tabakin has been appointed as the city’s interim corporation counsel by Mayor Dawn Zimmer until the position is permanently filled.
Tabakin is under consideration for the permanent appointment. An emergency resolution will be presented to the council at tomorrow night’s meeting to appoint Tabakin as the interim corporation counsel at $430 per day, with a contract not to exceed $6,500 through Oct. 6. The city expects to appoint a permanent corporation counsel at the Oct. 6 city council meeting. Last week, Zimmer accepted the resignation of Michael Kates, who had served as corporation counsel since January.
Tabakin received his Juris Doctor Degree from Seton Hall School of Law in 1990. He is a member of the Bar of New Jersey, the Bar of the United States District Court of New Jersey, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Third District.
Tabakin currently practices law at Weiner Lesniak, and serves as a partner and chair of the education and labor sections, where he represents management in all phases of education, labor, and employment matters, according to his resume.
“He has concentrated his entire legal career in the area of school law and labor/employment law, and has served as counsel to a number of school districts throughout the state,” according to his biography on the Weiner Lesniak website.
The appointment will be the first item on the agenda at the Sept. 15 council meeting, according to a letter from Zimmer to the council.
