Dear Editor:
On Sunday, Aug. 29, I was biking in the bike lane on Madison Street. I came upon a car that was parked in the bike lane. This is a usual occurrence. What made this occasion unusual was that there was a police car a few feet in front of me, and the police officers in the car passed by the double parked car without doing anything. I was right behind the police car, and I had to leave the bike lane and get behind the police car in the middle of the street to bike around the car.
I applaud Mayor Zimmer’s attempts to make Hoboken a bike-friendly city, but unless she has the support from the police department, and the parking offenders get cited, parking in the bike lanes will continue. If this was a once in a while thing, I wouldn’t be as upset, but this happens EVERY time I’m out biking.
In fact, I’m including a picture of another car that was double parked on Madison Street about half an hour later.
Disappointed biker
