Dear Editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents of our community for their generosity and compassion to the Secaucus Animal Shelter. Our volunteer committee, along with the animal shelter’s staff, hosted an “Open House” on Saturday, Aug. 14. Thank you to the many people who stopped by with donations of food, toys, treats, and money to help provide our dogs, cats, and kittens with the excellent care our shelter is noted for. Our volunteer committee members have been working very hard to bring awareness to our shelter, raise funds for improvements, train and socialize the animals and, most importantly, help find them “Forever Homes”. A huge thank you goes out to committee members Brigitte Gratale, Connie O’Connell, Christine Conti, Lauren Pirro, Catherine Yang, Peggy Gallagher, Megan Carricarte, Carol Douglas, Ilan Gluzman, and Dorothy Vail for their time, efforts, refreshments, bottled water, and decoration donations. Also, a special thank you to Dr. John Hatch and the Secaucus Animal Hospital for their donation of food and product samples. Thank you to Secaucus Animal Shelter staff members Ed McClure, Dennis Earle, Shannon Wisener, and Shannon Casey for ensuring that the shelter, its residents, and the surrounding grounds looked exceptionally beautiful that day. Thank you also to Rick Pomer for his articles in the Cove Notes and the creative flyer he designed to help us publicize our “Open House!” I would also like to thank Mayor Mike Gonnelli and the town council for their commitment to our town’s animal population and for their support of our animal shelter. I am very proud that one of the first resolutions passed by Mayor Gonnelli and his administration was one to ensure that our shelter was a “No Kill Shelter” and to provide the best care possible to every animal that enters our facility.
Our volunteers and shelter staff have had tremendous success with adoptions the past few months, but there are still many wonderful animals waiting for a loving forever home. Please feel free to give the shelter a call at 201-348-3213 or stop by. The shelter is open seven days a week.
