Rough sailing on cruise ship

Two men allegedly took part in a physical altercation on a large cruise ship.
According to the report, police officers were called to the ship, moored on Sinatra Drive, at 11:50 p.m. on Aug. 23.
The victim told police that while he was cooking on the boat, he was confronted by the owner of the ship, according to the report. The owner allegedly kneed the victim in the groin. The victim also said the owner allegedly kicked him in the left pinky finger, causing the victim to be transported to Hoboken University Medical Center by members of the Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps for evaluation of his hand injury, according to the report.
The owner claims the victim started the physical confrontation, according to the report.
The case was under investigation, as the police were still trying to figure out the jurisdiction of the crime.

Seafood and take it

Fifty plus pounds of seafood was allegedly removed from a Park Avenue tavern on Aug. 17, according to a police report.
Two owners of the establishment stated that over the course of the previous week, they noticed seafood missing from storage units in the basement, according to the report.
An owner told police that he and an employee saw a light skinned male, possibly Hispanic, 5’8, 150 pounds, in his mid 40s, wearing a gray t-shirt, gray shorts, and a black colored New Jersey Devils hat exiting the basement area of the store, according to the report. The owner confronted the man, who fled east on 10th Street.
The case is currently under investigation.

More than a cup o’ joe

A West New York man was charged on Aug. 17 with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of paraphernalia, possession of a hypodermic syringe, and being under the influence of a CDS after he became ill at a Washington Street Starbucks and passed out, according to a police report.
After the man, later identified as Jean Pierre Lopez, passed out, a Starbucks employee called police. E.M.T. personnel, while searching for identification in the man’s book bag, found an eyeglass case that contained three small, folded white envelopes of a possible controlled dangerous substance (believed to be heroin), a hypodermic syringe, a spoon, and a used Chapstick, according to the report. The envelopes were stamped in red ink with the name “street fighter” and two males pictured performing karate, according to the report.
The victim was given a dose of Narcan to counteract the effects of the C.D.S, according to the report. An E.M.T. personnel member told police that Lopez became alert and allegedly admitted using heroin, according to the report.

Mysterious stabbing

A man was allegedly stabbed by an unknown person on Aug. 15 while leaving a second floor Harrison Street apartment.
According to a police report, the victim was travelling down the stairs of his apartment where he “felt a poke from behind on the right side of his back.”
The victim thought he was stabbed with an ice pick and continued to jog down the stairs, and glanced behind him but saw no one, according to the report. The victim could not give a description of the instigator.
According to the report, five digital photos of the wound were taken and logged into evidence.

GPS stolen

A global positioning system (GPS) was allegedly stolen from a vehicle at the corner of First and Jackson streets on Aug. 15.
According to a police report, the victim’s passenger side window was smashed, and the GPS system was missing. The victim stated that the GPS was in the glove compartment, but the GPS holder was attached to the car windshield, according to the report.

Oh, brother

A Hillside man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct following a series of disturbances that took place on Aug. 14.
The man, identified as Phillip Steed of Hillside, N.J., was allegedly intoxicated, causing large crowds to form, and causing disturbances on Marshall Drive, Adams Street, and Madison Street, according to the report.
The police received three different calls regarding the disturbances, and found Steed allegedly being held by two of his sisters. A police report said Steed was arguing with the siblings “because he was intoxicated.”
According to the report, Steed was allegedly being belligerent by continuously screaming and cursing, causing a large crowd to form. The large crowds caused police to call for backup to disperse the crowds, according to the report.
Steed was processed and released on a summons.
