Hurricane Earl could pose a threat to East Coast

STATEWIDE — While it is too early to extrapolate about the third mid-Atlantic storm of the season, a fierce Hurricane Earl could brush the East Coast, forecasters predict. The area is now entering peak hurricane season, which historically is usually at its most active around Sept. 10.
As noted in a Reporter article several years ago, the New York City metro area gets a serious direct hit from hurricanes approximately once every 90 years, but is affected by non-direct hits much more often.

Another tropical depression that could become a storm is following behind Earl as well, but is as yet unnamed.
