Holiday Hudson Reporter editorial and advertising deadlines
Because of the Labor Day holiday, some of the Hudson Reporter newspapers will have special advertising deadlines.
For the Sept. 8 edition of the Bayonne Community News, the display ad deadline is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2. The classified deadline is noon on Friday, Sept. 3.
For the Sept. 9 edition of the Midweek Reporter, the display ad deadline is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2 and the classified deadline is noon on Friday, Sept. 3.

When you open your Hudson Reporter this week, you’ll find the fall issue of Palisade Magazine, the Hudson Reporter’s glossy lifestyle magazine that connects the communities of Edgewater, Guttenberg, Hoboken, Jersey City, North Bergen, Union City, Weehawken, and West New York.
If you don’t see a copy of Palisade Magazine in this newspaper, free copies are available at public libraries – in Jersey City at the main branch – and at the Hudson Reporter, 1400 Washington St., Hoboken.
Palisade Magazine is published quarterly. In December, look for the winter issue as an insert in your Hudson Reporter.
Tasting tomatoes at the Hoboken Historical Museum
Today, Sunday Aug. 29, the Hoboken Historical Museum will host an “Heirloom Tomato Tasting Festival” featuring gourmet tomatoes in the breezeway outside the museum’s entrance at 1301 Hudson St. from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
City pool to remain open until Wednesday
The Hoboken Municipal Pool at the Boys and Girls Club will remain open until this Wednesday, Sept. 1. The pool was originally planned to close on Friday, Aug. 27. With warm weather expected, the pool will remain open on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week.
Hoboken ski club featured in Midweek Reporter
In this week’s Midweek Reporter, the Hoboken Ski Club, which is celebrating their 20th anniversary this ski season, is profiled. The club contains over 400 members, and has previously run trips to Vermont, California, Maine, and Europe.
The group begins taking reservations for trips in mid-September. The Hoboken Ski Club meets on Tuesdays in the back room at Willie McBride’s, located at 616 Grand St., at 8:30 p.m.
Spaghetti dinner block party is Sept. 2
Hoboken’s Cultural Affairs office invites members of the public to a spaghetti dinner on Sept. 2 on the Frank Sinatra Drive walkway, between 1st and 2nd streets, beginning at 5 p.m.
The event will feature four kinds of pasta, meatballs, sausage, salad, bread, and dessert.
Tickets can be purchased at the Cultural Affairs Office in City Hall at 94 Washington St. Checks should be made payable to the City of Hoboken.
The price is $20 for adults, $10 for children 12 and under, and $200 for a table of ten.
If purchasing by mail, send a check, and include a piece of paper with your name, address, phone number, and how many tickets you want to purchase.

Grammy nominated folk rocker to perform at Maxwell’s
Maxwell’s, located on the corner of 11th and Washington streets, will be hosting Jennifer Knapp, a Grammy-nominated and Dove-winning artist on Monday, Aug. 30, at 8:30 p.m. Lucas Carpenter will also perform on Monday.
Knapp’s stop in Hoboken is a part of a nationwide tour. According to a press release, “The Kansas-born musician toured the globe with artists such as Jars of Clay, and was featured on 1999’s Lilith Fair tour.”
Tickets ($15) can be purchased in advance at MaxwellsNJ.com.
The site also provides an upcoming schedule of acts and concerts that will pass through Hoboken.
Biergarten opening in uptown Hoboken in fall
A Pilsener Haus and Biergarten will open at 1422 Grand St. in Hoboken this fall.
The biergarten advertises itself as “the first authentic biergarten in Hoboken.”
“Pilsener Haus and Biergarten will provide over 18 varieties of beer on drafts, an impressive selection of 30-40 bottled beers, two grills serving authentic German-style sausages along with a kitchen menu, and will host live music twice a week,” according to a press release. “They will have indoor and outdoor winterized facilities that make it a desirable location all year long.”
Correction
In an article that ran in the entertainment section last weekend about Beth Rooney and Anthony Picone, the title of their film should have been “The Long Road Home,” not “The Long Way Home.”
