Alexan sues to stop Port Authority sale

Poll: Should Bayonne move its 9/11 memorial?

As the developer of the Alexan City/View luxury apartment complex located on a portion of the former Military Ocean Terminal sues to stop the container port deal with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, pressure mounts from the public over the proposed moving of the Zorbas Tsereteli’s “To Struggle Against World Terrorism” monument, the 100-foot high structure that the people of Russia originally proposed to locate in Jersey City.
There appears to be growing opposition to moving the monument, putting additional pressure on city officials from the public. The Bayonne Community News is conducting a week-long, on-line poll to gauge public opinion about the issue.
The poll can be accessed here:
Meanwhile, the developer claims the Bayonne Local Redevelopment Authority has breached its contract by selling neighboring parcels to the Port Authority for use as a container port. The BLRA voted on July 29 for a $235 million contract to sell to the Port Authority approximately 130 acres of land at the former Military Ocean Terminal.
Alexan City/View was the first luxury rental property under the original redevelopment plan which would have brought 6,700 units of housing to three of the six waterfront development districts. With 65 percent of the 544 units already leased, Alexan is asking Hudson County Superior Court to award it money damages and to stop the sale to the Port Authority.
