Tropical Storm Danielle may become Hurricane Danielle…

STATEWIDE — While it is too early to extrapolate about the second mid-Atlantic storm of the season, Tropical Storm Danielle is forecast to become Hurricane Danielle later this week, and could rile the surf off the East Coast of the Mid-Atlantic states, forecasters say. The area is now entering peak hurricane season, which historically is usually at its most active around Sept. 10.
As noted in a Reporter article several years ago, the New York City metro area gets a serious direct hit from hurricanes approximately once every 90 years, but is affected by non-direct hits much more often. Hudson County and especially low-lying Hoboken could see severe flooding from such a storm; see links to that piece below.
