Woman cashes check, then loses it while shopping
On Aug. 16, a woman reported to police that she lost $595 while shopping at Pathmark on Park Avenue. According to police, the woman had just cashed a check at the Bank of America in Pathmark and proceeded to shop in the grocery store. While shopping, the woman said she dropped the envelope the money was in and when she went back to find it, she could not. According to police, the woman said a surveillance video at the store showed a man who walked behind her, picked up the money, and then exited the store. The investigation is ongoing.
Man arrested for allegedly fighting at private party
According to police, on Aug. 15, Michael Jones of Hopatcong was arrested for simple assault on Harper Boulevard. Police said that they were called to the scene after Jones, who was allegedly drunk at a private party in an apartment, allegedly assaulted another attendee at the party. According to police, Jones was treated at Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen for injuries he sustained.
Two trucks stolen within two weeks
On Aug. 4, according to police, a 2005 Dodge Ram pick up was reported stolen from where it was parked on Oxford Lane.
On Aug. 16, another truck was stolen from a construction site parking lot near the Chart House pier on the waterfront. According to police, the 1995 Dodge Ram pickup truck was filled with work tools and a welding machine.
Family feud leads to police call, but no complaint
On Aug. 8, police were called to the scene of a home where a nephew had gotten into an altercation with his uncle. According to police, the uncle was sleeping on the couch when two relatives walked into the room. One of those relatives was the victims’ nephew, who allegedly began to hit his uncle. The other relative in the room then threw the nephew out of the residence.
According to police, the parties involved declined to file a formal complaint.
Fire victim becomes victim of theft
According to police, on Aug. 13, one of the victims of the Aug. 5 fire on 49th Street returned to her home to retrieve some personal items when she discovered that a Gucci watch, valued at $495, was apparently stolen.
Car break in; GPS and cash taken
On Aug. 12, the owner of a 2003 Hyundai 4-door vehicle reported that his car, which had been parked on Boulevard East, had been broken into. According to police, the passenger window was shattered and a GPS unit and $80 in cash had been stolen.
Illegal dumping
On Aug. 11, police were notified by the resident of a home on 47th Street that an unknown male has been allegedly dumping garbage and construction materials at the home. According to police, they have obtained information about the vehicle being used for the dumping, and the investigation is ongoing.
Mysterious tree trimmer or criminal mischief?
On Aug. 10, the owner of a home on Oak Street reported that three planted palm trees in the yard had been cut, and the palm leaves had been left on the ground.
Diamonds not forever
A woman reported to police that sometime between July 29 and July 31, two diamond earrings were stolen from her home on Hackensack Plank Road. No value was given in the police report.
Tools stolen from home under renovation
According to police, on Aug. 5 a home undergoing renovation on Clifton Terrace was broken into and power tools, valued at $1700, were stolen.
