A mass of Christian burial was held Aug. 16 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Tenafly, for Zena Fox, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to many. She died peacefully with family around her on Aug. 13. She was born in Jersey City, daughter of Ignacy Grubowski and Teofila Rutkowska Grubowska; sister of Sigmund (John) Grubowski, Helen Grubowska Kulakowski, Dr. Joseph Grubowski, all deceased. Zena graduated from Jersey City State College with a B.A. in education. She began her teaching career in Dumont, and became a well-loved kindergarten specialist in Jersey City for 32 years, until her retirement. Zena was happily married to Robert J. Fox for 53 years. Their home together was always filled with family, friends, and happy times. Her family grew to include her children: Zeni Fox (Englewood Cliffs), Barbara Fox Golebiewski and John Golebiewski (both deceased), Robert J. Fox, III and Susan Fox (Nutley), Helen Andrea Fox Cardman and Lawrence Cardman (Williamsburg, Va.); her grandchildren Amelia Golebiewski Bartolone and Joseph, Elizabeth Golebiewski Kumar and Mohan, Christina Golebiewski Edington and Jonathon, Kevin Fox, Alicia Fox Shokoff and John, Andrea Fox, Peter Fox, Andrew Cardman and Leigh Ann, Michael Cardman and Erin Anne, and Zena Maria Cardman; her great-grandchildren Claire and Emily Bartolone, Anita and Leela Kumar, Rebecca and Grace Edington, Thomas and Matthew Shokoff, Mylie and Carly Cardman, and Luke, Liam and Corinne Cardman. She was a resident of Englewood Cliffs for 49 years. Her full life included being an active member of the Englewood Cliffs Senior Club; Kosciusko Foundation, New York City; Englewood Hospital Auxiliary; and Jersey City Theresians. Until the end of her life, Zena was an ardent gardener, crocheter and card player. Services arranged by the Barrett Funeral Home, Tenafly.
