A funeral mass was offered Aug. 17 at St. Nicholas R.C. Church for Joseph B. Fitzgerald, 59, formerly of Jersey City. He died Aug. 10. He was a decorated Jersey City police officer who worked for 30 years and retired seven years ago. Joseph was an active member of the Emerald Society, POBA, and FOP of the JCPD. He was a corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict. Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph T. (retired lieutenant of the JCPD) and Gladys (nee Walsh). He is survived by his wife Rose Marie (nee DePinto); his son Bryan (JCPD); his brothers, Kevin (retired JCFD) and his wife Pamela, Thomas (Deputy Chief JCFD) and his wife Joanne; his sisters, Maureen Zingaro and her husband Ron, Patricia Csontos and her husband David; and is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
