A funeral mass took place Aug. 6 at Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City, for Grace A. Tartaglia “Gracie Red,” lifelong resident of Jersey City, known to many for her love of singing and sparkling personality, passed away Aug. 2. Grace’s voice has resonated with fervor everywhere in Hudson County and on the Hudson, and at anytime would belt out an impromptu tune to liven a party. Grace’s zest for entertaining dates back to 1942 and working over 50 years for Circle Line Cruises. She began as a cheerful ticket agent and developed a career in shipboard life. She filled in with big bands and started parties entertaining mayors, celebrities and crowds from the World’s Fair and Centennial celebrations. It was on the Americana where she met her husband, the ship’s Captain John F. Kruger. In the late 1960s, Grace auditioned on television for the Andrews Sisters. Grace was the wife of the late John F. Kruger; the mother of Diane Kruger and husband Bryan Rizzi, and sister of Mary Ann. Grace’s love for her family and friends will be greatly missed. Services arranged by the Riotto Funeral Home, Jersey City.
