Enjoying summer in Hoboken

Both visitors and residents take in all city has to offer

While many North Jersey residents enjoy escaping to the beach, there are a number of Hudson County residents who find leisure and relaxation right in their backyard in Hoboken.
The outdoor cafes along Washington Street, the views of New York City from the waterfront, the city parks, and simple strolls through the mile-square city provide ways for residents and visitors from other towns to relax without the hassle of long travel. Even beyond the lines at Carlo’s Bakery, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Hoboken in the summer months.
Last week, Emily Chaffee of uptown Hoboken sat with a friend on a pier bench chatting along the river.

“I love the walkway along the Hudson,” Chaffee said. “I love seeing everyone out here either running or walking their dogs.”
Chaffee has a message for her hometown of Hoboken.
“I appreciate all of the effort Hoboken has put into the waterfront,” Chaffee said. “But we need to be clear as a community that we don’t want any more condos like these on the waterfront.”
Several people spotted at parks and eateries last week were from nearby towns like North Bergen, where a quick drive or a jump onto the light rail can bring them right into the mile-square city.
