Funeral services took place Aug. 7 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jersey City, for Jean D. Ball. She passed away July 29. She was born in Chowan County, N.C. to the late Elmer and Mamie Felton. She was the youngest of nine children, six sisters and two brothers, including the late Elizabeth Rumble, Nellie Boyce, Equilla Richardson, Eva Bellfield and Elmer Felton. She is survived by her two sisters, Augustine Copeland of New York and Margaret Lewis of Suffolk, Va., as well as one brother Vann Felton and his wife Essie Mae, also of Virginia. Jean graduated from Edenton High School of Chowan County, N.C. and Drake Business College in New York. She went on to become an accountant and was employed by Jersey City Medical Center for over forty years. She also leaves to mourn her two sons and a daughter, James Felton, Rahmel Allah, and Gloria Newsome Johnson and her husband Bruce Johnson. She also leaves her grandchildren Mykesa Woodard, David Johnson, Nyah Newsome, and Charon Felton. She was recently preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua Todd Johnson. She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jersey since 1967 and served there as an usher, altar guild member, member of Women of the ELCA (WELCA) and in many other capacities. Jean was also of her lifetime membership in the NAACP and she was an avid Mets fan. She will be remembered best as an honest, loving, hardworking, and straightforward person who you could count on to be responsible. She was known for her warm smile which she shared with all who knew her. Services arranged by the Watson Mortuary Service, Jersey City.
