Rec. offers tennis lessons this fall

Mayor Mark A. Smith and Director of Municipal Services Joe Waks have announced that the Recreation Division will now offer tennis lessons every Wednesday from Sept. 15 to Oct. 20. The U.S. Sports Institute will again be running the lessons.
The U.S. Sports Institute is the number one provider of sports programs and camps in the U.S.A. Following U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) curriculums, the USSI tennis clinic is a fast and easy way to develop individual skills. The program offers a wide variety of drills and games suited to the ability level and age of every person who attends.
The USSI follows curriculums and guidelines laid out by the USTA, which includes the highly appraised Quickstart Tennis Format. At every level, participants will learn the basic fundamentals in stroke production, court movement and footwork skills, all in a low pressured environment. Group and individual games are played in all sessions.
Supervisor of Recreation Pete Amadeo stated, “The U.S. Sports Institute will offer a unique opportunity for the youth of Bayonne to learn the game of tennis. The Recreation Division has already worked with the USSI this past summer, and I believe they do a tremendous job with running their programs. I highly encourage boys and girls to take part in this experience.”
All sessions run for a seven week period. Make-up classes will take place after the last scheduled session.
The clinics meet every Wednesday at the First Street Tennis Courts beginning Wednesday, Sept. 15. The 3 to 4 year olds meet from 3 to 4 p.m.; 5 to 6 year olds meet from 4 to 5 p.m.; 7 to 9 year olds meet from 5 to 6 p.m.; and 10 to 18 year olds meet from 6 to 7 p.m.
The fee for the seven week program is $85 per participant. Registration has begun and will take place until Friday, Sept. 3. Registration forms can be picked up at the Division of Recreation in City Hall, Room No. 13.
