To Mayor Smith:
As an animal lover and a practical person, I urge you not to implement the plan to trap and kill feral cats in Bayonne. Not only is it heartbreaking, it doesn’t solve the “problem.” More cats will come to fill the void left by the dead cats. If the cats are left in place but neutered, they will defend their territory and prevent new cats from coming in.
As a volunteer for the Hudson County Animal League, I’d love to see this group work in cooperation with the City of Bayonne to control the feral cat population in a truly humane way: by preventing more unwanted kittens from being born.
