Songs in the key of life

Local residents share the music they can’t live without

Last week, the Reporter asked five Hudson County residents to share their summer reading lists with their neighbors. After receiving a surprising amount of feedback from other book lovers following that publication, we thought we’d keep the conversation going, this time with an emphasis on music. This week we asked five residents to tell us what music they’d want if they were lost on a secluded island. Here’s what they had to say:
“That’s a tough decision…I own a recording studio [Machines with Magnets in Providence, R.I. [It would be] The Clash, Edith Piaf, Chopin, Nina Simone, and Jawbreaker. They just identify me, from being a little kid until now.” – Lauren Holt, Jersey City
“I listen to mostly country. I guess I would pick Trisha Yearwood, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill. And right now I love that song by Lady… Not Lady Gaga! Lady Antebellum! That’s it. I have a lot of [mixed] CDs that my husband has made and I just listen to them over and over again.”– Joyce Bouille, Secaucus
“Some Pink Floyd, probably ‘Dark Side of the Moon.’ That’s a classic. Gotta have a Beatles album in there somewhere. It almost doesn’t matter which one. Maybe ‘Magical Mystery Tour.’ The new Circa Survive album, ‘Blue Sky Noise.’ Incubus’ ‘Morning View.’ And just to have something else, probably the Roots’ ‘The Tipping Point.’ This would give me a range if moods and emotions and could help me with whatever situation I’m facing at the moment.” – Matthew Caminiti, Hoboken
“U2, ‘Joshua Tree’ specifically, Corinne Bailey Rae, The Gotan Project, Sting and a little bit of old school rap, A tribe Called Quest. [I’d pick those artists because] it’s a little mellow, a little funky a little of a hip hop beat to it.” – Tashia Figueroa, with her husband Herman, North Bergen
“Well, maybe some big band music from the ’40s and ’50. But I also like the Duprees, Frankie Vali, Kenny Vance, Little Anthony and the Imperials. I saw him last year at the Meadowlands. And some Motown, maybe the Temptations or the Four Tops. I loved [the late Four Tops frontman] Levi Stubbs. I could go on and on.” – Frank Scardigno, Secaucus
