Man heading to internet date fights off knife attack…telling attacker he’s married

JERSEY CITY — NJ.Com posted a story Wednesday night about a man from North Bergen, 39, who was attacked and had his car stolen after he went to Jersey City to meet a woman he had met on the internet.
According to the account, the man told police that when he pulled up to meet the woman, she approached his window and asked to use his cell phone. Then, the victim said, a man jumped into the front passenger seat and allegedly tried to cut him with a knife.
Here’s where it gets interesting. The account says: “After the driver pled for his life, noting he had a wife and kids, the armed man tried to stab him in his side, reports said. The victim fought off the attempt, but was cut on his left hand, police said.”
The story did not say whether the man really was married, or was making it up. In any case, the man was able to flee the car. Two other men jumped into the car and sped off along with the attacker.
The victim told police that he believed the internet woman had set him up. Police found her nearby and she gave a statement. They did not arrest her.
No word on what he told his wife and kids about what he was doing in Jersey City.
