JERSEY CITY AND BEYOND — Kyle Grooms may not be the “Last Comic Standing,” but that doesn’t seem to be worrying him much. The quick-witted, satirical comedian was (until Monday) a participant on this season of the comedic competition, where he didn’t shy away from using comedy to make political statements – he’s become known for his impersonation of Barack Obama.
Though he made it through the first round, Grooms was not among the five chosen so far for the semi-finals.
However, Grooms, a native of Perth Amboy and current Jersey City resident, already had his own taste of fame prior to the reality show – appearing on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, The Chappelle Show, VH-1, P-Diddy’s Bad Boys of Comedy, and in his own half-hour special on Comedy Central.
And if you haven’t seen Grooms on the reality show or in a comedy special, you may instead perhaps recognize that face from commercials for Sears, Holiday Inn Express, or CareerBuilders.com.
When interviewed on a light rail trip this week, Grooms said that he is continuing his stand-up career and is headed to Washington, D.C. on Thursday for a show. He is next scheduled to perform in New Jersey at Brewster’s in Hightown on July 31.
