A funeral mass was offered June 22 at St. Paul the Apostle Church for Grace M. Calabrese, 101. She passed away June 18. She was born in Rosetto, Pa., and raised in Bethlehem, Pa. At age 14, she began working for a seamstress, doing beading on wedding gowns. She married Frank A. Calabrese on September 6, 1928 and moved to Jersey City where they raised their five children. Her sewing, knitting and crocheting skills enabled her to make clothes for her children and grandchildren. Her ability to cook and bake Italian specialties has left her family with recipes and traditions that continue to make holidays special. Grace painted ceramics and in her sixties took up pencil sketching and painting. For the past 23 years, her daughter Theresa lived with and took care of Grace. She shared a special bond with Theresa and her children, Lynette, David, Robert and Don and great-grandchildren, Camille and Emily, spending all holidays and special occasions with them. She was pre-deceased by her parents; brothers and sisters including Lucy Tozzi; her husband, Frank; sons-in-law, Donald D’Elia and Larry Colby; and granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Calabrese. She was the mother of Theresa D’Elia, Phyllis Colby, Margaret Podzielny (Stanley), Gloria Patti (Dr. Joseph) and Frank Calabrese (Gaynel). She was the grandmother of Lynette D’Elia (Scott Carpenter), David D’Elia, Robert D’Elia (Naz), Donald D’Elia (Cynthia), Lawrence Colby, Michael Colby (Lillian), Monica Badrick (Gary), Scott Calabrese (Kim), Rachael Williams (Russell), Joseph Patti (Maria), Jennifer Voelksen (Eric), and Michael Podzielny and 15 great-grandchildren.
