Dear Editor:
On Tuesday, April 20, late at 8:35 p.m., I voted in a school board election at Lawlor Towers.
Surprised, I saw exiting a voting booth, not one – but two persons! They parted hurriedly, with abject thanks from the “helpee.”
As I approached the booth, the “helpful,” unidentified woman asked if I need aid. I said no, I could manage.
Ignoring this, and without a word of reproof from the people at the tables, she lifted the curtain and entered the booth with me, pointed to the first three names on the list and said softly, “Press 1, 2, 3 and the question.”
“And what,” I said, “happens to 4, 5 and 6?”
“NO, NO, NO!” she said, and slowly repeated, “1..2..3.” She waited. I waited. Finally she left and I voted for a reject.
This is disgraceful. And illegal.
I wrote April 21 to the Commissioner of Registration.
No reply. Perhaps you can be our Voice?
Yours truly,
Laraine Murphy
