JC Housing Authority one of six in country to receive HUD grant; HUD secretary to visit

JERSEY CITY — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced on Tuesday that the Jersey City Housing Authority (JCHA) received a $9.7 million grant from the agency.
HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan will travel to Jersey City on Wednesday to announce the awarding of the HUD grants.
The JCHA is one of only six housing authorities across the country that received a grant specifically to transform public housing developments into mixed-income communities.
Other housing authorities that received the grants included those in Trenton, Charlotte, NC, Covington, KY, Dallas, TX, and Memphis, TN. The grants totaled $113.6 million.
The $9.7 million grant Jersey City received will go toward the revitalization of the former A. Harry Moore public housing development, which has already produced 66 mixed-income units with future plans to create hundreds more units. – RK
