UNION CITY AND BEYOND — Union City Mayor Brian Stack and Police Chief Charles Everett held a press conference late Tuesday afternoon to say that Studio 45 Nite Club, where a deadly stabbing took place early Monday morning, is being closed down.
Stack called the business a “major problem” and “public nuisance” for Union City and pledged to do everything in his power to keep the business from re-opening.
Police executed a search warrant on Tuesday morning that Everett said led to the discovery of a variety of evidence that the business was selling alcohol after its license had been taken away approximately four years ago.
Based on that evidence, the city seized the business and plans to revoke the the certificate of occupancy and business license. Everett added that businesses which open after the city’s designated hours put a strain on the police force.
All officers on duty in the early hours of Monday morning had to respond to a stabbing incident at 3 a.m., which took the life of one Union City resident and has left another critically injured. One man was arrested at the scene on Monday morning, another remains at large. (See previous breaking news item below.)
