NORTH BERGEN – According to a press release, the 76th Street Little League field in North Bergen has been closed due to “higher than acceptable” arsenic levels in the soil.
The tests, completed Tuesday, were a routine process mandated by the state Green Acres grant program. Arsenic is a dangerous chemical element that is regulated by the government.
“Although we are taking this matter seriously, we do not want parents to be unduly concerned,” said Mayor Nicholas Sacco. “We are closing this field as a precautionary measure until further soil testing can be performed and evaluated.” – Tricia Tirella
