DEAN, LEONARD A

Funeral services were held May 10 for Leonard Alan Dean, 64. He died peacefully May 4 following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Formerly of Jersey City, he was a resident of East Orange since 2005. Born in Jersey City to the late William and Naomi Raines Dean, he graduated from Henry Snyder High School in 1964, after which Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge. Leonard was employed by Exxon Mobil in Bayonne as a pipe fitter. Given his commitment and civic nature, he became involved in the union and held several leadership positions during his tenure. In 1995, he joined Merck Pharmaceutical Company as a pipe fitter, where he was employed until the time of his death. Leonard, a passionate people person and animal enthusiast, was loved by many. He is survived by his son, Sean Brant; three grandchildren, Darryl Ramsey, Alexandria Brant and James Brant; one sister, Constance Hills; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Services arranged by the Jackson Funeral Residence, Jersey City.
