UNION CITY AND BEYOND —As of 9 p.m., with two thirds of the election districts in in Union City, incumbent Mayor Brian Stack and his four incumbent commissioners appear to have gotten far enough ahead of the opposition to ensure re-election.
In Union City’s form of government, voters elect five commissioners. Then those commissioners choose a mayor from among themselves. It is expected that they will choose Stack again to serve as both mayor and commissioner. Mayor of Union City is considered a part-time job.
Stack separately serves as a state senator, also a part-time job.
Stack is a popular mayor in his city, and is known for moving around commissioners meetings to different parts of town to get more varied input, as well as giving out his cell phone number to residents.

Here are the results of the machine votes as of 9 p.m. The incumbents have the most votes. These results do not include absentee ballots, but it is likely that there would not be enough of them to change the results.
